Powdery mildew, also known as white mold, is one of the most common fungal diseases and affects almost all types of plants, from vegetables to ornamentals.
The plant most commonly affected by powdery mildew is the rose, in all its varieties. But begonias, hydrangeas, petunias, heather, violets, lilacs, bay laurel, and laurel can also be infected.
Among vegetables, it affects spinach, aromatic herbs, carrots, chard, celery, fennel, pumpkins, zucchinis, as well as apple trees, hazelnuts, peach trees, and vines.
It is very widespread in northern areas and appears in climate conditions that are unfortunately quite common: moderate temperatures and a medium level of humidity are enough.
Spring, early summer, and autumn are the seasons when the disease is most likely to appear.
In case of heavy rain, however, the fungus is washed away from the leaves and removed from the plant.
